About the CMDFTT
About the CMDFTT
CMDFTT is a registered non-profit organization with four directors,
Annette Dopwell, June Nathaniel, Nicholas Dopwell and Christiane
McGahan. As we pursue our goals, others have offered their
service to this cause, and we work with a planning committee of ten
persons.
CMDFTT will have a direct and positive effect on the young children
of our community and will operate with full and part time staff
members. In addition, a Governing Board made up of community
leaders will operate to provide overall sanctioning of the operation.
At present, there are no programs that support the ideals of the
CMDFTT. While students of music study and access private
training at tremendous cost, there is no assistance available to
the young student who may be unable to continue such training.
Also, the only avenue open to our classical musicians for honing of
their technical and performing skills, is the biennial Music Festival,
which gives them an opportunity to pace themselves against local
competition. While this is a worthy endeavour, after the competition
is over there is no follow-up, no assistance or guidance available to
outstanding or talented performers.
The CMDFTT has over the past three years begun to establish its
annual fund-raising season as a significant event in the cultural life
not only of Trinidad and Tobago, but attracting visitors from the
region and further afield.
The CMDFTT has succeeded in attracting the very best young talent
to perform in Trinidad. It has raised standards and it is creating an
audience for excellence in the area. In doing so, it has established
Trinidad in the public mind as a center of vitality and excitement in
the Arts.
It has opened windows of the imagination and it has widened the
horizons for many young people.
That this should have been done by a small number of people on
slender resources, giving of their time, energy and dedication
should be an inspiration to all who wish to promote high standards
in the arts away from the great concert halls and mainstream
centers of more developed countries.
